Ted Newton: A Short Biography

Ted Newton has been teaching at Moreau Catholic High School since 1986, and during that time the band and orchestra program has grown from two classes to the present six classes. The program maintains a rigorous performing schedule that includes concerts, community performances, school assembly programs, and music festivals. Under Mr. Newton’s direction students have performed in Orlando, New Orleans, Honolulu, and Funabashi, Japan. With extensive experience as an adjudicator and clinician at student music festivals throughout California, Mr. Newton has served on the board of the California Music Educators Association as the Jazz Representative and has also been in demand as a presenter at numerous music conferences. Mr. Newton was the first ever recipient of the Gil Freitas Award for Excellence in Music Education presented by the California Music Educators Association.
