Art

  • Three of Moreau's A.P. Art students, Catherine Farinas '13, Jonathan King 12' and Marlene Imana Iyemura 12', have been awarded Gold, Silver and honorable mentions by the California Region of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Their work is featured at Reynolds Art Gallery in the Jeannette Powell Arts Center of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Ca. Closing ceremony is on Saturday, March 3rd from 2-4 p.m. One piece by junior Catherine Farinas has been forwarded to New York for national judging which occurs in late March. National winners will be exhibited at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
  • Senior Marlene-Imana-Iyemura's original artwork has been selected as a finalist in the Oh, the Places You’ll Go! scholarship challenge. Her artwork is one of 5 regional finalists displayed at Peabody Gallery, a fine art gallery representing The Art of Dr. Seuss, beginning March 2 and running through March 31, 2012. Peabody Gallery is located at 603 Santa Cruz Avenue, Menlo Park, CA.
  • About 25 students from all Visual Arts classes have artwork displayed in the Art IS Education show at Cinema Place Gallery from the end of February through March 2012. Cinema Place Gallery is located at ‪1061 B St. in Hayward.‬


Band

  • The Jazz Ensemble placed 1st at the March 2012 Chabot College Jazz Festival for the 4th consecutive year. The following students were awarded Outstanding Soloist Certificates: Benjamin Jackson, Ian Santillano, and Theodore Tan.
  • Jazz Ensemble results for the Foslom Jazz Festival:
    • The Jazz Ensemble placed 2nd in class C
    • Outstanding soloists awards were given to Theodore Tan, Benjamin Jackson, Christopher Jackson and Ian Santillano

Dance

  • On January 26 and 27 the dance program celebrated 10 years of dance in a Gala performance.
  • On February 12, Honors and Dance Ensemble II attended a workshop at Fort Mason in SF in preparation for Vision Series Festival on March 18 at the same location. The day included a feedback session with buddy company RISK Dance and mentor from "One" Dance Company. Our dancers received accolades for their technical skill, performance quality and professionalism.
  • The same class will travel to Marin Academy on March 10 to participate in the 3rd annual Bay Area High School Dance Festival. This is an invitation only festival.
  • Dancers will also take 6 pieces to the Ohlone Theatre Festival on March 16-17.


Drama

  • 16 performing and technical theatre students received certificates of participation at the CETA NorCal High School Theatre Festival
  • 7 advanced performing and directing students received certificates of appreciation for adjudicating the CETA Middle School Theatre Festival in Sacramento
  • 5 theatre students provided technical support for St. James' fundraising performance event in Teves Theatre
  • During the first semester, 6 theatre students performed the Gaza Monologues and Falling for Amy Armstrong's Peace and Conflict Studies class and for Colleen Galloway's 1st period class
  • The first MCHS frosh theatre showcase will take place on Friday, March 9 at 7 PM in Teves Theatre. This is a free public performance.
  • 38 theatre and choir students attended a performance of Oklahoma! at Sonoma State University: the female lead role was played by MCHS alumnae Vanessa Begley '09 and the production stage manager was MCHS alumnae Heather Radovich '09
  • Theatre Club produced and hosted the annual MCHS Talent Show
  • The fall play, Much Ado about Nothing was a rousing success
