Three-Peat

The Mariner boys golf team established team and individual goals at the start of their season. At Las Positas Golf Course on Monday, April 30, they achieved two of those goals.

The team breezed through the season with a lofty 15-1 overall record, and ended up 13-0 in HAAL match play. They have a 27-match unbeaten streak in league play that stretches back to 2009. The team went into the league tournament as two-time defending champions and solidified the "Three-Peat" as they demolished the field with a team score of 370, beating out the rest of the competition by at least 51 strokes.

Carlos Briones '12, future Santa Clara University Bronco scholar athlete, did not let down as he earned his fourth consecutive league title after shooting five-under par for a low score of 66. Carlos' closest competitor was teammate, Blake Ramos '13, who finished second with a one-under par score of 70! Rounding out the team was fourth place finisher, Pranav Mohan '14 (77), Jose Montes '13 (78), Kevin Murray '14 (79), and Ryan Rodriguez '12 (84).

The team will head into the Tournament of Champions on May 14, 2012 at the Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, then hope to qualify on to the Nor Cal Championship at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico on May 21, 2012. After NCS, the State Tournament will be held at San Gabriel Country Club on June 6, 2012. Stay tuned for more information as the Mariner boys golf team aims to capture the State Tournament!
