Academic Support Center
The Academic Support Center is in the process of organizing for the 2010-11 school year. Stay tuned for dates it will be opening.
The Moreau Academic Support Center is located in A 04. The center is open during academic and activity collaborations and open after school from 2:35 p.m.-3:35 p.m.
The Academic Support Center offers peer support in academic subjects. This includes one-to-one tutoring, small group tutoring, drop-in tutoring, computer skills support, study skills and organizational strategies. Walk-in tutoring support is available in most subject areas for students needing assistance with a specific assignment or concept. This year the Academic Support Center is partnering with the Math Department to provide and an after-school Math Lab for students seeking additional help in their Math classes. Both NHS peer tutors as well as MCHS math teachers will be available.
The Academic Support Center is staffed with students who have been accepted into the National Honors Society. Moreau Catholic High School has been a proud partner of the National Honors Society for over 10 years. National Honors Society students are sophomores, juniors and seniors, with over a 3.0 cumulative GPA who have demonstrated academic success along with strong leadership skills. NHS students go through a formal application process prior to being accepted into NHS.
NHS students in the Academic Support Center are designed to provide an additional level of support for students who are struggling with a specific concept or skill in their academic courses. NHS peer tutors should not take the place of getting support from a teacher.
Students will be required to sign-in to the Academic Support Center, logging in when they arrive and when they leave. These log sheets will be made available to teachers, counselors and administrators. Parents can also contact Ms. Serena Maniscalco via email to confirm whether or not a student was in the Academic Support Center.
All students in the Moreau Academic Support Center are expected to behave in a matter conducive to a learning environment, consistently being respectful of all students’ learning. If a student’s behavior becomes a distraction to other students, their assistant principal will be contacted along with their parents.
If you have any questions about the Academic Support Center, please contact Ms. Serena Maniscalco who will be facilitating the Academic Support Center at smaniscalco@moreaucatholic.org, or Mike Aquino, Assistant Principal of Instruction at maquino@moreaucatholic.org
