NEW Concurrent Enrollment Policy (August 2025)
Many of our students take community college classes for enrichment. During the summer, rising 10th through 12th graders may be approved for up to two concurrent enrollment classes. We recently updated our concurrent enrollment policy to include concurrent enrollment during the school year as well. During the school year, 10-12th graders with a 3.5+ GPA may register for one concurrent enrollment course per semester upon their counselor’s approval. Students may not take courses that are being offered at MCHS or use these courses to fulfill MCHS graduation requirements. Students and families should be aware that taking concurrent enrollment courses is a serious decision and commitment. Students must be able to independently navigate the enrollment process and learning platforms. For more information, students should go to the community college website of their choice and can talk to their counselor.
Chabot College: Individual Dual Enrollment
CSU East Bay - Dual Matriculation Program (Concurrent Enrollment)
MCHS is partnering with CSU East Bay for a special concurrent enrollment opportunity for classes on their campus. This is for current Juniors and Seniors only. Their Fall semester starts August 19th and concludes December 13th. All of their important dates can be found here. Interested students must print and fill out the Dual Matriculation Program Form and return it to their counselor by the deadline (despite the form saying that it needs to be returned to CSUEB).
Concurrent enrollment at a community college or CSUEB is free, offers students the opportunity to take classes that we do not offer, and upon completion, has a positive impact on college admission decisions. However, these are bonafide college courses with college rigor. Families should discuss if this is the right fit for their student, factoring their full schedule at MCHS and extracurricular involvement.
Other things to note: Courses taken through Concurrent Enrollment do not get posted on a student's MCHS transcript. However, when students apply for college in their senior year, college classes and grades are reported on their applications, where colleges will factor it into their college GPA.
