Athletic Updates from Winter Break

Athletic Updates from Winter Break

Winter break was anything but a break for Mariner Athletics!

Frosh Boys’ Basketball came in second place in the Clayton Valley Tournament in a nail-biting overtime ending. The team was undefeated going into this game and has been dominating the game.

The JV boys competed in the Miramonte Tournament over the holiday break, competing against elite teams such as Salesian, Saint Joseph of Notre Dame, and Livermore.

Varsity Boys’ Basketball swept through the William Morse Tournament hosted by Mt. Eden, defeating Saint Joseph of Notre Dame and Monte Vista. The team traveled to Palm Springs for the Desert Holiday Classic hosted by Rancho Mirage. The team had a huge win over the #17 ranked in Southern California, Fairmont Prep.

On December 17th, we hosted our inaugural Colleen Galloway Invitational. This event was filled with elite girls’ basketball players, teams, and coaches from throughout the Bay Area coming together for the love of girls and sports. We honored our very own Mrs. Colleen Galloway with the inaugural Colleen Galloway Game Changer: Women in Sports Award (pictured below). The Moreau Catholic High School Athletic Department launched this award to tell the stories of women who have found success through athletics and serving as leaders in the sports industry. The award identifies a woman coach, student-athlete, administrator, or official in the industry and honors her for her leadership, innovation, accomplishments, and impact as they guide the next generation looking to find their way in sports.

Moreau Catholic High School’s Athletic Department looks forward to honoring more women for their achievements and sharing their triumphs. Each future recipient will be a living representative of the Moreau Catholic High School Athletic Department mission:
“Fostering the development of Christian attitudes toward healthy competition, an appreciation for the value of teamwork, the importance of commitment and hard work in achieving short and long term goals, and respect and tolerance for the abilities and opinions of others.”

Varsity Girls’ Basketball was on the road in Mesa, Arizona for the Nike Tournament of Champions. This is America’s #1 high school basketball tournament that invites the top 128 teams in the Nation to compete. This is an invitation-only event, and our program earned their invitation with their back-to-back NCS Championship wins over the last 3 seasons. The Mariners went 3-1 for their first time at the tournament!

The team came home to host the West Coast Jamboree. With over 160 elite and premier girls' basketball programs from around California, Moreau Catholic was the host site for the Diamond Bracket, which included Bay Area elites such as Moreau Catholic, Salesian, Acalanes, and Bishop O’Dowd. This tournament was electric in each game, with many buzzer-beating endings.

Varsity Boys’ Soccer hosted Division 1 Northgate over the holiday break. The team held onto the Broncos through the first half of the game but came up short, 0-4. The team went into holiday break by tying the #1 team in MVAL, American High School, with a huge upset. The team continued by defeating Mission San Jose 3-2. The team is working diligently towards their first NCS bid since the 2018-2019 season.

Varsity Girls’ Soccer has been a team to watch! With huge wins over Salesian and Redwood Christian and tying MVAL league opponent Mission San Jose, the team is currently ranked #14 for NCS Division IV. We’re excited to see the second half of the season for the Mariners.
