Retreats

Students will begin cultivating Holy Cross spirituality as they reflect on our four Pillars: Being Family, Building Respect, Educating Hearts and Minds, and Bringing Hope. We hope that by the time our students graduate from Moreau, they will have integrated these themes into their daily lives.

The Frosh retreat is led by our senior student Campus Ministers and is supervised by faculty members. One of our aims is for the freshmen to get to know themselves and their classmates. The retreat is also an opportunity to learn what it means to belong to the Moreau community.

The Frosh IFT Day will be held on campus on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The students will start their retreat at 8:00 am (check-in begins at 7:30 am) and will end by 11:45 am. All students are expected to participate in the Frosh Retreat and be in approved relaxed dress code. (See Student Handbook 10.7)

Students: You will attend the freshman retreat with your freshman theology class. Please see the date below to find out when you will be attending. Parental consent will be needed to attend this mandatory retreat, which will be granted through the Appryse system.

Agape, and its verb form agapao, is one of several Greek words for love. Agape love is a little different. It is not a feeling; it’s a motivation for action that we are free to choose and reject. Agape is a sacrificial love that voluntarily suffers inconvenience, discomfort, and even death from the benefit of another without expecting anything in return.

In their sophomore year, the Moreau student is given the opportunity to expand their awareness of the world through an intense community experience in a day retreat. The retreat begins with self-examination, then transitions into a look at our community, ending with a look at each student’s commitment to build the Kingdom of God. The day involves self-examination, group discussion, and sharing of their own experiences.

Students: You will be attending the sophomore retreat with your Moral Theology class. Please see the date below to find out when you will be attending. Parental consent will be needed to attend this mandatory retreat. Parental consent will be granted through the Appryse system.

The junior retreat coincides and complements the Holy Cross Social Justice Seminar course. Besides taking the course, each junior also will experience a retreat (We offer a total of 6 retreats throughout the year). On retreat, juniors are invited to consider a different definition of Church: one in which it is not only a place of worship but also one of refuge, peace, and respite from the streets.

This junior retreat experience takes them a step further into the heart of the city, to live two days in simplicity…simple food, simple living.

They hear stories and live music, serve kids and adults and become church for others as we walk with the individuals we serve. This retreat is a challenge to hearts and minds to take knowledge from the classroom and apply it to the complex realities that create poverty and homelessness… developing a deeper understanding of life through service and contemplation.

The Kairos Retreat Program has been in existence since 1965. Several modifications have been made over the years to promote the faith and life of Moreau students and Holy Cross themes.

Kairos is a silent, directed retreat offered to our seniors as a three-day, two-night culminating retreat. The purpose of the retreat is to deepen the senior’s connection to their faith through the connection to relationships with family and friends.

Note to Students: Parental consent will be needed and done through the Appryse system. Once you have been placed on the reserved list, your name will be added to the Appryse list.
