Frosh football standout Tyler Randall, who anchors the offensive and defensive lines for the Mariner JV team, has been selected to the USA Football Under-16 Select Team as a defensive tackle. The select team will play Unidad - Mexico in International Bowl IX at AT&T Stadium in Texas on January 19.
USA Football is the sport's national governing body for youth football. Tyler was selected from more than 10,000 athletes who participated in the U.S. National Team Program.
Players must first try out at a Regional Development Camp in the spring, before earning an invitation to the development games, which Tyler attended this past summer at the University of California, Davis.
While at the summer camp, USA football, in a blog said that "Randall was like a bull in a china shop all weekend long and earned the Gold Ball for his performance.... (He) used a combination of speed and power to be a consistently disruptive force. Coaches and evaluators likened his ability to that of an 11th grader and particularly like the way he used his hands to establish control during 1-on-1s."
"Tyler is an amazing young man on and off the field. He is a leader of his peers and works very hard in the classroom," Moreau Head Football Coach Andrew Cotter said. "He is a prime example of what it means to be a Mariner. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with him for the next three and half years."
