Empowering the next generation to pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is a passion for Guillermo Diaz Jr., the keynote speaker at Moreau Catholic High School's 9th Annual Funding Hopes and Dreams Dinner and Auction.
The evening gala, "Opening the Door to Opportunity," will be held Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Fremont Marriott Silicon Valley beginning at 6 p.m., with cocktails, a silent auction, and wine pull followed by dinner at 7 p.m., the keynote address, and a live auction.
The event benefits the school's Trust for Student Support, which plays a vital and important role by providing tuition assistance for about 40 percent of the student body.
Keynote speaker Diaz is the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Cisco's global information technology organization and services headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley. He will be joined by alumna and Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Oakland Schools Kathleen Radecke. She will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Moreau Catholic alumnus Carlos Briones '12 and current senior Mercedas Reichel will also speak at the event.
The live auction features week-long stays in vacation homes in Alsace, France, and in the Yosemite foothills; dinner and entertainment package for 30 by award-winning musician and cook extraordinaire Patrick Landeza; wine tasting; concert tickets and more.
