Mock Trial
Enjoy watching Law and Order? Interested in entering the legal field? Then consider joining Moreau Catholic High School’s Mock Trial team and learn how to enact a criminal case in a courtroom setting.
Students who compete in Mock Trial learn how to prepare for a trial from start to finish. They argue constitutional issues before real Superior Court judges and attorneys. Students plan, draft, and present opening statements, direct examinations, cross-examinations, and closing arguments. They learn to play the role of attorneys, witnesses, clerks, and bailiffs.
Moreau’s Mock Trial Team is highly competitive and has done well at the local, state, and national levels. Over the past decade, Moreau’s Mock Trial team has:
- Won the Alameda County Competition 7 times, with the most recent victory occurring in February 2022.
- Placed in the top 8 at the California State Competition several times, most recently placing 7th in March 2022.
- Competed in the national Empire Competition several times and placed 3rd place at Empire San Francisco in 2019 and won Empire Atlanta in 2016.
Mock Trial helps students build their logical thinking, communication, public speaking, collaboration, and writing skills. Many of our past members who went to top colleges and law schools like UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, NYU, and USC cite their experience in Mock Trial as a leading contributor to their success.
